The organizations listed on this site are highlighted because their missions align with OFAPOD’s values of healing, resilience, education, and community support.

Unless explicitly stated, OFAPOD is not formally affiliated with, partnered with, or endorsed by these organizations, nor do donations imply organizational approval or sponsorship.

 

Organizations

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

What NAMI does / Where it is:

  • NAMI is the largest grassroots mental-health organization in the U.S.
  • Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, with local and state affiliates across all 50 states and Puerto Rico: Meaning NAMI reaches communities nationwide.
  • NAMI provides education, advocacy, support groups, public awareness, and a helpline:  For individuals with mental illness and their loved ones.

How donations help / Impact:

  • Donations help fund free or low-cost education and support services (peer-to-peer classes, family support classes, outreach) so people don’t feel alone.
  • They support public awareness and advocacy — fighting stigma, influencing policy, and making mental health a recognized public concern.
  • They strengthen community-based programs, ensuring people everywhere, regardless of background or location have access to help.

Why NAMI fits OFAPOD’s purpose:

Anxiety & Depression Association of America (ADAA)

What ADAA does / Where it operates:

  • ADAA is an international nonprofit dedicated to prevention, treatment, and cure of anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD and related disorders. They connect research, clinical practice, education, and outreach.
  • Their reach is global through online resources, research support, and community outreach programs.

How donations help / Impact:

  • Funds support research and education, helping advance understanding of anxiety and depression, improving therapies and coping tools.

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA)

What DBSA does / Where:

  • DBSA provides support groups, both in-person and online, for people living with depression or bipolar disorder, as well as for their friends, families, and caregivers.
  • Their services include peer-led support, education, outreach, and advocacy.
  • Their national office is based in Chicago, Illinois, but their reach spans across the U.S. via local chapters, online groups, and widespread educational materials.

  • Donations keep support groups running, offering safe spaces where people can share, heal, and feel accepted, often reducing isolation and despair.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)

What AFSP does / Where:

  • AFSP is a voluntary health organization working to “save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.”
  • Based in New York City, with a public-policy office in Washington, D.C., AFSP runs national advocacy, research funding, support for survivors, and community outreach programs.

How donations help / Impact:

  • Donations help fund suicide-prevention research, public education, crisis-intervention resources, and support for individuals and families affected by suicide.

Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF)

What BBRF does / Where:

  • BBRF is a nonprofit global research funder dedicated to advancing scientific research into mental illness, across a broad range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, addiction, autism and more.
  • Headquartered in New York City, BBRF has awarded hundreds of millions of dollars in grants worldwide to scientists studying the brain and behavior.
  • BBRF’s model ensures that 100% of every donation for research goes directly toward research grants (their operating costs covered separately).

National Network of Depression Centers (NNDC)

What NNDC does / Where:

  • NNDC is a network of academic medical centers across the U.S. that collaborate to improve diagnosis, treatment, clinical care, research, and education around mood disorders (especially depression).
  • Rather than a single office, NNDC spans many centers nationwide: pooling expertise, data, and resources to raise care standards and share knowledge broadly.
